Wandsworth is often referred to as “The Brighter Borough” and has a population of around 284,000 (2008). It is a successful commercial, academic and cultural centre in its own right as well as a major commuter centre for central London.
Public transport is superb with numerous railway routes linking through the major transport hub of Clapham Junction to give access to central London within 20 minutes from most areas within the borough. Underground services are available by the District and Northern lines, again giving access from around the Borough into central London within around 30 minutes. This level of accessibility, the high quality of transport infrastructure, the abundance of attractive open space and the lowest council tax in the UK are some of the reasons why the Borough is a sought after area to live and the target for major development schemes:-
- Battersea Power Station
- The new US Embassy
- Nine Elms and New Covent Garden Development
- Town Centre proposals for Wandsworth on the former Youngs Brewery
The market for residential property remains strong with values in some areas recovering to the levels of 2007, particularly along the corridors of the A3 and the A23 that are particularly buoyant. The Borough can boast some of the highest residential values achieved in the Inner London area.
